ABOUT TRAUMENTAL

What sets us apart? Whether you’re seeking treatment for trauma-related mental health issues or substance use disorder our integrated holistic approach to healing focuses on the whole person, including the underlying issues that impact an individual’s well-being.

What is trauma?

The word ‘trauma’ means ‘wound’ in Ancient Greek. Trauma regularly occurs because of an event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope. Such events may cause or threaten to cause severe injury or death
Traumatic occurrences can range from bereavement to natural disasters, but if left unchecked they can have a common negative and long-lasting impact on mental wellbeing.
Trauma survivors often relive a traumatic event over their lifespan. This ‘fight or flight’ reaction is a normal bodily response to the fear created by the initial crisis. Unfortunately, trauma that goes untreated can seriously affect a person’s ability to move freely through life.
Trauma in the modern world may occur as result of any number of crisis situations including natural disasters and pandemics such as Covid-19.

What are the symptoms of dealing with trauma?

There are many different signs that could indicate that be an individual may be struggling to cope with trauma. These could include:
  • Insomnia
  • Poor concentration
  • Intrusive memories and thoughts
  • Isolation
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Self-doubt
  • Physical symptoms: racing heart, headaches, stomach aches
  • Development of mental disorder, including PTSD.

WHY TRAUMA INFORMED AND TRAUMA SPECIFIC CARE MATTERS

We are a trauma-informed and trauma-specific behavioral healthcare service agency. Our approach to servicing our clients are to shift the focus of our client’s presenting crisis from “What’s wrong with you?” to a more likely situation that demands an inquiry of “What’s happened to you?”

TrauMental seeks to engage and facilitate clients with histories of trauma to recognize the presence of possible trauma symptoms and to acknowledge the impact of those past traumatic experiences over their lifespan.

Although Trauma-Informed Care and Trauma Specific Treatment are often confused, they are related and different concepts. While Trauma-Informed Care incorporates the knowledge of trauma into all facets of service delivery, it was not created to treat the symptoms or syndromes associated with trauma. However, Trauma Specific Treatment is an evidence-based and best practice treatment model that has demonstrated therapeutic efficacy in trauma recovery. Trauma Specific Treatments directly attend to the impact of trauma on the individual’s life and promote trauma recovery- they are devised to treat the actual consequences of trauma.

Whether you’re seeking treatment for trauma, mental health issues, addiction, eating disorder, love addiction, sex addiction, or something else, our holistic approach to healing focuses on the entirety of the whole person, including any underlying issues that may impact an individual’s well-being.
